My favorite berry smoothie!

by Angie

Oh, the smell of the forest from my childhood is still so fresh in my memory. The mushroom picking and berry picking were my favorite summer activities. I miss it so much… As kids, we used to wait for school to end so the summer food extravaganza can start! We used to go and play in the forest, full of abundance, new fruits, new smells, and animals. Both fed my soul as well as my belly! Running around and playing in the forest and eating were my favorite things to do as a child. Coming back for berry picking, the smell in my kitchen was fantastic. Making jellies, knedle, pierogi with berries (heaven on the plate), berry pies and more. There is no another fruit in the forest treasures, which has so many health benefits and such an enormous healing power.

Berries are fantastic for your health. They contain Anthocyanin pigments which protect us from many diseases. Vitamin C, A, D, and vitamins B. They contain a lot of minerals, like iron, calcium, magnesium, copper, manganese, potassium, sulfur, etc. and also pectins and lots of antioxidants!

In folk medicine in my country, they were used primarily in the treatment of various gastrointestinal ailments: diarrhea, constipation, poisoning, also parasitic infections. In any form, berries protect the gastric mucosa. Blueberries are a rich source of antioxidants, protecting the body against free radicals, which neutralize carcinogens. One cup of blueberries a day entirely covers the body’s need for antioxidants.

For my smoothie, I used walnuts which contain omegas 3, avocado and coconut for healthy fat. Acai powder, which is rich in antioxidants, lucuma powder and maca powder, which can help you balance your hormones and regulate blood sugar. I love lavender, so I added a little bit for a flavor. I decided to add fresh pomegranate seeds because they are in season, plus they contain natural aromatase inhibitors. They inhibit the production of estrogen, which is helpful for women who are estrogen dominant and can reduce breast cancer risk.

Perfect smoothie to grab when you have a hectic morning and need good nutrition with a boost of energy.
